I answered the question, “What is dutchangles.com“? But I didn’t answer the question, “What are dutch angles”?
The Dutch angle, also known as Dutch tilt, canted angle, oblique angle or German angle, is a type of camera shot where the camera is tilted off to one side so that the shot is composed with vertical lines at an angle to the side of the frame.
To the left is a shot I took at night of the signpost at Bank and Regent in downtown Ottawa. It’s fitting that I was unemployed and recovering from a very bad breakup at the time the photo was taken, as the tilt and the lens flare from the streetlight really captured the sense of loss and darkness I was feeling.
